Sustainable Sawdust/Eucalyptol Absorption Matrix for Odor Slow-Release in Plywood Floor

A sustainable matrix based on eucalyptol essential oil/sawdust was developed and applied laminated plywood. This finish aims to serve as a odor slow release. Eucalyptol release monitored with gas chromatography coupled flame ionization detector (GC-FID: Limits of Detection Quantification 0.70 g/m3 2.11 g/m3, respectively, linearity up 18.6 g/m3). Measurement the released performed during six-month period, it found that followed first-order exponential decay rate constant 0.0169 per day. The half-life determined be 48 days. granulometry particle size porosity sawdust were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy. fraction 112–200 μm showed best absorption capacity, 1:3 masses ratio (sawdust:eucalyptol). duration is influenced quantity eucalyptol–sawdust composite aperture for Through determination this relationship, applying 15.0 g through 0.8 mm diameter resulted in 6-month period. outcome regarded highly favorable, considering inherent high volatility relatively small amount required future product applications. new characterized carbon footprint (considering industry frontiers) 5.94 kg CO2eq/m2 plywood floor.
